TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Jeff Garcia started at quarterback for Tampa Bay against Carolina on Sunday, replacing Brian Griese, who sat out with a sore elbow and shoulder that prevented him from throwing in practice.
Griese was injured during the Buccaneers' 16-13 loss at Denver last week. Garcia led Tampa Bay to the playoffs in 2007, but lost the starting job after playing poorly in this year's opener.
With Griese out, rookie Josh Johnson was the inactive third quarterback.
Receiver Joey Galloway and fullback B.J. Askew also were inactive for Tampa Bay. Carolina's inactives included receiver D.J. Hackett, offensive linemen Ryan Kalil and Jeff Otah and defensive tackle Darwin Walker.
Matt Moore was the Panthers' inactive third quarterback.
