The Tampa Tribune and St. Petersburg Times reported the third-year guard, the Bucs' first-round draft pick two seasons ago, underwent surgery for a broken foot. However, there was no confirmation from coach Jon Gruden or the team on nature or severity of the injury.
"Davin Joseph has hurt his foot. He's getting X-rays and examinations and all those things at this point in time, but I don't have anything concrete in terms of what the injury is," Gruden said after practice Tuesday.
Joseph has started 28 of 29 games at right guard since entering the league as the 23rd player selected in the 2006 draft. He missed the first three games of his rookie year after a knee injury.
Rookie Jeremy Zuttah moves into Joseph's spot on a young offensive line that's expected to be one of Tampa Bay's strengths this season.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Joey Galloway practiced for the first time this summer. He missed all of training camp with a sore groin.
"He's a work in progress. He's getting better," Gruden said. "He's not a 100 percent, and therefore it's hard to play. But he is back in a limited capacity."
Quarterback Jeff Garcia, sidelined most of training camp by a right calf strain, also practiced. Gruden said it's too early to predict if he'll make his preseason debut this weekend against Jacksonville.
"We'll make that decision in the next few days, once we see him for a couple days," Gruden said. "We'll talk to him and see how he looks."
