-- Quarterback Jeff Garcia has been told by the Bucs that he will not be re-signed as a free agent, according to the St. Petersburg Times. The team signed Luke McCown to a two-year deal last week, signaling the team was likely to part ways with Garcia, a free agent who will turn 39 on Feb. 24. "My time in Tampa has come to an end," Garcia told the Times. He was 14-10 as a starter for the Bucs the past two season, and said he intends to try to play elsewhere in 2009.
-- The Bucs completed their new coaching staff under Raheem Morris. Steve Logan, the former offensive coordinator at Boston College, will be the running backs coach. He replaces Rich Bisaccia, who last season coached running backs and special teams. Bisaccia will serve in a different capacity this year: special teams coordinator/associate head coach.
The decision to have him concentrate solely on special teams, the team said, was made by Morris and GM Mark Dominik before the hiring of offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski.
The Bucs also announced the hiring of Chris Mosley for assistant offensive line coach. Mosley was the tight ends coach at Princeton last season after serving as assistant offensive line coach at Boston College in 2007. Alfredo Roberts has been named tight ends coach.
--LT Donald Penn wants a long-term deal with the Bucs. He is a restricted free agent.
"Film doesn't lie," he said. "I think I deserve it. I want to make sure my family is financially secure. ... I've been the lowest-paid starting left tackle for two years and you want to be compensated."
Penn added that the Bucs and his agent were close to a deal during the season, but things never got finalized for some reason. Talks did not re-open until just a few days ago, at least in part because of the change in the team's leadership.
