--Now that Phillip Buchanon has signed with the Detroit Lions, the Bucs are in the market for another cornerback. Last week, they hosted Daven Holly, 26, who played in 29 games for the Browns in 2006-07, starting 18. He suffered a season-ending knee injury during a practice in May competing for a jump ball with receiver Braylon Edwards.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Holly had five interceptions in 2006, returning one for a touchdown. He was a seventh-round pick by the 49ers in 2005 out of Cincinnati. He played three games for the Bears as a rookie.
--The Bucs have released PK Shane Andrus, according to the team's website.
Andrus became expendable after Tampa Bay signed Jets PK Mike Nugent to compete with Matt Bryant.
Andrus was among 10 players signed to a reserve/futures contract Jan. 8. He spent the past three seasons in training camp with the Indianapolis Colts.
--Several new Bucs have selected uniform numbers. Running back Derrick Ward, who wore No. 34 with the New York Giants, will wear No. 28 vacated by Warrick Dunn. Tight end Kellen Winslow, who wore No. 80 for the Cleveland Browns and No. 81 with the Miami Hurricanes, will wear No. 84.
Nugent will wear No. 5. Newly signed linebacker Niko Koutouvides will wear No. 53, last made famous by linebacker Shelton Quarles.
