--QB Jeff Garcia returned to practice Monday after missing 10 days with a strained right calf. Coach Jon Gruden said he didn't know if Garcia would play Sunday against New England.
--FB Lorenzo Neal worked out with the Bucs last week but was not signed.
--DT Jovan Haye has a groin strain and did not play against the Dolphins. He remained in Tampa for treatment.
--RB Warrick Dunn started in the backfield Saturday at Miami with Earnest Graham but neither player carried the football before being summoned to the bench.
--FB B.J. Askew is nursing a sore foot and did not play against the Dolphins.
BATTLE OF THE WEEK: The battle for the backup QB spot will be interesting. Luke McCown got the start Saturday against the Dolphins and simply didn't make enough plays, missing WR Michael Clayton in the end zone. His had decent numbers, but Brian Griese's were much better - 10-of-14 for 59 yards and a touchdown. If starter Jeff Garcia goes down early in the season, Griese could be the choice. But if it's a long term deal, they might go to McCown.
OTHER BATTLEFRONTS: The left defensive end spot is interesting. Jimmy Wilkerson, a free agent from the 49ers, threw his hat into the ring Saturday with a sack and two tackles. Currently, Kevin Carter is battling Greg White.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: RB Michael Bennett. The seldom-used back was a workhorse against the Dolphins, accounting for 90 yards from scrimmage rushing and receiving and a touchdown.
ROOKIE REPORT: C Jeremy Zuttah continues to draw praise from coach Jon Gruden for playing both center and guard positions.
KR/WE Dexter Jackson caught his first pass Saturday night, an 11-yard reception, and returned a punt 15 yards and a kickoff 21 yards.
WR Brian Clark had the only touchdown reception Saturday, a 1-yard strike from QB Brian Griese.
RB Clifton Smith, an undrafted rookie out of Fresno State, rushed 9 times for 28 yards and caught three passes for 12 yards while returning a punt 30 yards.
QB Josh Johnson completed his only passing attempt Saturday, a 15-yarder.
